LIFE
Q: Who are you? Is this your real job?
A: I'm a pre-law student at a college in Massachusetts and this is a long-time hobby of mine. I do not rely on this as a significant source of income, but it has landed me some extremely cool opportunities.
Q: What do you do when you're not blogging?
A: Awesome shit that you would love to do.
FOOD
Q: What WON'T you review?
A: Mushrooms. Also, non-food or non-cooking products, like pens.
Q: What are your favorite things to review?
A: I review unique and interesting food products, be they condiments, snack foods, candies, appetizers, or frozen items. I also review kitchen gadgets, local restaurants, and have a soft spot in my heart for new fast food offerings. My favorite things are flavors that make you think- chocolates with interesting flavors, chips that taste like entire meals, and sodas made from vegetables and obscure fruits. I love the original and innovative.
Q: Do you do restaurant reviews?
A: I do! If you want me to check out anyplace special or if you're a restaurateur or public relations firm representing restaurants, seeking information, please contact me.
Q: How do you get your products?
A: When new things come out, I usually drag myself to the store to buy the newest Toaster Strudel or whatever I have my eye on. I eat at restaurants fairly often. And companies often send me samples of their products for review.
BLOG
Q: I'm a public relations person/longtime reader/CEO/stranger with candy and I love your content. How can I send you my product or just say hello?
A: You can write me at foodette.reviews@gmail.com, or comment on one of my posts.
Q: I'm a masochistic publisher. Do you want to write a book?
A: HELL YES. Email me.
Q: Do you do blog contests or giveaways?
A: Yes, I do contests that are participation-based and determined by random number generators or a highly trained panel of monkeys. If your company wishes to participate in a contest, shoot me an email!
Q: What are your review policies?
A: I accept solicited and unsolicited samples from companies with products that are interesting and germane to the blog's subject matter. However, this does not guarantee a positive review or a review at all. Once you release your product for review and agree to have it written up on the site, I am going to give my honest and detailed opinion. I do not receive monetary compensation from the website outside of my regularly scheduled advertising with the BlogHer Network or unless otherwise disclosed, nor do I accept products from companies that encourage a specifically positive or advertisement-heavy review. My opinions are mine and mine alone, and do not reflect those of the manufacturers, companies, public relations department, or restaurants.
Q: Why do all your fellow reviewers have such silly nicknames?
A: To protect the anonymity of my loved ones and friends, I give them relatively asinine nicknames (myself included) in case they'd like to be featured on the blog but not have their privacy compromised. All the featured friends and appearances on the website are consensual, even if I make them say silly things in my reviews.
Q: Who does your photography? What equipment do you use?
A: I do. I use a Canon PowerShot SX120 and my recently acquired "Big Girl" camera, a Nikon D-3000 DSLR with an 18-55 lens.
Q: How did you get into blogging?
A: The sole reason for my blogging inspiration can be traced to T.C. Boyle's "Sorry Fugu". If you read it, it will explain literally everything.
Q: Why is your blog so raunchy?
A: Because I fucking like it that way.
Q: What are your press credentials?
A: I write restaurant critiques and general culinary news reports for a few campus publications, write for this blog, and covered press at the 56th Annual Fancy Food Show in NYC this past June. I've been featured on BlogHer, Gourmet, The Huffington Post, Foodbeast, and more. Feature me in your publication!
Q: What's next for Foodette?
A: In addition to adding new sections to the blog- more contests, recipes, cocktails, and expanding to gadget and cooking product reviews, I have also launched a new blog, Nobly Rotten, focusing on wine reviews and wine tools. I am hoping to overhaul and redo Foodette over the summer.
